About me - a short note

Opening Thoughts

With a high stress day job, to cope with, there is nothing like being able to chill out and relax on my down days and head out away from the bustle and hustle of the town environment and unwind in the country enjoying the sights and sounds of the various wildlife that inhabits our area and also those that visit us!

My choice of equipment

My choice of camera is the mirrorless, full-frame Sony a9ii camera system, with its modest 24 megapixel resolution.

I use a wide range of lenses, from Sony, Sigma, Viltrox and some other brand names. These are a blend of fixed primes and telephoto varieties.

As for accessories, I use the British manufacturer - 3 Legged Thing, for my Tripod and tripod additions. My pick was from their travel system range and the tripod name was “Punks Brian 2.0” and this retails for around the £270 mark, which is not bad for a carbon fibre build.

Who I am

I’m a maverick photographer.. I don’t follow the rules of photography and I am unconventional in my methods. But that works in its own weird way. Sure I own a good high end tripod.. I’ve always got it with me in my backpack but for the most part, I’ll handhold my rig for most of the photos that I take.. and this is a rig that weighs in excess of 3,5kilograms or nearly 8lbs and if using an extended battery pack or accessory.. i can be touching 10lbs easy (4.5kg) and i carry this by hand for around the 6 hours i am typically out!

If you would like an idea of what that would feel like… hold a 6 pint of milk at arms length (that is only 3kg) for a length of time and you will see how quick your arm aches!

My style of photo

I personally enjoy the more tonally dark and contrasty style of photo with unconventional framing and settings used on my camera. I like to share the world as I see things and not as “picture perfect”. This is one of the things that makes us, as humans unique.. we are all individual and without personal choice and creativity, life would be bland, dull and devoid of emotion.
